I have just heard that Roy Goodby (Wahiba) died in his sleep on the 31stOctober 2019 after a long illness. He was one of the founding members of the Northern Saluki club. In next week’s notes I will have his full obituary. Diana Klein has sent me the following notification in regards to her taking over the job as editor of “The Saluki’ the magazine of the SGHC: “I am taking on the role of editor of the Saluki Magazine in the New Year. I've had salukis for 43 years now, having had my first dog from Don Wieden's "L" litter, we've had 7 dogs and two bitches (three of whom were rescues). We made a small effort to show two of the dogs; but I was working in a high pressure job in the City and I just didn't have the time to devote to showing - so we became the kind of Saluki owners who simply love and appreciate the breed. Now that I am mostly retired, I am devoting more time and energy to the Club and I look forward to editing my first edition in the Spring. The deadline will be the end of January; publication date March 2020, the Crufts Edition. I look forward to working with you all to provide an interesting and informative magazine.” Diana can be contacted at the email address of editorsalukimagazine@gmail.com “A few weeks ago I wrote about Masha Shaverneva and her wonderful agility Saluki, Gazal Sarbaz Har Kala Rachi (IMP BEL). Masha has sent me an update of how he fared at the agility trial held at Discover Dogs: “As you know, Altai qualified for the final of the KC Starters Cup competition back in August. This is open to all Grade 1 dogs, that is beginner dogs with beginner handlers. The finals consisted of 2 rounds - a jumping and an agility round (which has all the contacts equipment like A-frame, see saw and dog walk). Unfortunately due to my mistake (being too slow for the speediluki and pointing the wrong way) Altai went into the tunnel instead of doing a sharp turn and we were eliminated in the jumping round. However our fortunes were totally reversed in the agility round and we not only went clear with no mistakes but we also won the class! And Altai was the only dog among border collies an gundogs who managed a clear round too. This gave us 6th place overall despite getting no points in the jumping round. I have uploaded some videos on my page on YouTube if you wanted to see Agiluki in action ;) https://www.youtube.com/user/MashaPhoto/featured” Midland Counties Championship Show was held last Saturday. The weather was foul, heavy rain downpours, flooding all around the roads near the venue. I understand many people were coming in covered in mud. Yuk. Pleased to say we stayed at home and watched the rugby game. Not sure the weather was much better in Japan. Judging Salukis was the hound specialist Espen Engh from Norway. DCC, BOB and Hound Group 1 went to Ch Classicus Cassander JW Sh CM Owned by Alan & Jeannette Glaister with the RDCC to Ch Classicus Baroque At Gavensett Owned by Sharon and Graham LIttlechild. BCC, her second CC from Espen was won by Ch/Ber Ch Ulmarra Tropical Ice At Winton owned by Katherine Williams with the RBCC to Alishammar Roxane owned by Natasha Hamilton. Best Puppy was Caryna Naduenka for Gemgwynad owned by Yvonne Corden. Well done all!! Helen Williams Kasaque565@gmail.com here to edit.
