York Canine Assoc is holding their Open Show on Saturday 30th July with Saluki classes.
What a busy week it has been. First event was Bath Championship Show with Lorraine Fitzgerald awarding CCs for the first time. Usually, this date is the first of the summer bank holidays but due to the Jubilee, this year it was not. The day was quite cold and breezy but fortunately no rain. Lorraine handed out to each of the class winner a lovely red, white and blue tassel commemorating the special week of the Queen’s Jubilee. BCC, BOB was Denise Garratt, Sharon Oakey and John Owen’s Glenoak Lunah from Caryna, for her second CC, with the RBCC to Karen Fisher’s Ruweis Mahnisa. DCC, for his 2nd CC went to Tricia & Michelle Ulyatt’s Fernlark L’Aunisien in Cornhaze Sh CM.with the RDCC to Sarah Sawer’s

On Wednesday, Reading Premier Open Show was held at the Showground, Newbury, adjacent to Southern Counties Championship Show. Judging Salukis was Maya Monk. She chose our own Luachmhar Jadira Kasaque for her BOB. Best Puppy was Debbie Copperthwaite’s Al Caliph Belisama.
Friday, was the busiest day of the busy week. Southern Counties Championship Show was held. The promise for the day was warm and sunny conditions. It pretty much fulfilled that promise, never reaching a temperature that was uncomfortable. Judging Salukis was breed specialist Mrs Saija Juutilainen from Finland. She has judged our breed, here, once before, about 15 years ago at the Northern Saluki Club. DCC, BOB was Cathy Harding and Nicola Cowley’s Classicus Odysseus at Ashahni for his second CC. RCC, Best Veteran went to Debbie Copperthwaite’s Ch Al Caliphs Anjal Bey. BCC, Best Junior, went to our own Luachmhar Jadira Kasaque for her first CC. She was born on 30th January 2021. Her breeder is Liana Phillips. Jadira’s sire is Kasaque Shabaz and her dam Virdana Amira S Berega Turi (IMP RUS) Sh CM, CEX BP. RCC went to Kathy & Martin Webb and Sybille Benoit’s Mouniir Har Kala Rachi (IMP BEL). Best Puppy went to Anna & Ben Freegard’s Mumtaz Obession
After the judging there was a lovely surprise birthday party for Oxana Grigorenko. Everyone gathered around to toast her with cheese and wine for the special occasion. Walking around I did see many groups that had gathered for celebrations. The WHWT were the most colourful group that I saw. They had hats, banners, Pimms, delicious looking cakes celebrating the other event of the day, the Queen’s Jubilee. It really was a sight to behold.
After the SCCS judging the Saluki or Gazelle Hound held their Open Show. The ring was tastefully decorated with lovely banners in a mauve colour with a photo of the queen, cammorating her very special occasion. Judging was all-rounder Simon Burton with stewards Anna Freegard and Jeannette there to assist him. Historically this is the Club’s most important show of the year with the winner of Best in Show rewarded with a most treasured ‘Club Spoon’ to commemorate the day. Best In Show, Best Dog went to Adele Walton Haddon’s Badavie Don Peppino at Ilsham (IMP SWE). Reserve Best dog went to Christine Campling’s Ch Classicus Octavius.
