A big thank you to Caroline Pickering for sending the following” On Sunday 29th September, The Northern Saluki Club held thieir Open Show at Shirland Village Hall, Alfreton. Judging us was Ms Lesley Fairhall from Australia. We had a terrific entry of 48 Salukis. Despite the awful weather the majority of exhibitors made the journey .The day got off to a great start with Jess Brassington cooking bacon cobs, supplying everyone with teas and coffees and not forgetting the wonderful homemade cakes from Hilary.Davies. BIS and BD went to Ch Fernlark by Design. RBIS and BB Glenoak Lunah From Caryna , BP was Caryna Nadyenka For Gemgwynad and BV Ch Caryna Curetes. After judging a special birthday celebration was held for Mia Freegard (age 6) where the whole room joined in a loud chorus of happy birthday and we were then treated to a slice of Mia’s lovely birthday cake. To top the day off, six Fun classes were held with some fabulous fancy dress outfits ranging from Beetlejuice to Egyptian Goddess and probably the funniest, ‘6 legs ever’ that had the whole room in hysterics. All in all a really lovely day with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This weekend, 12th& 13thOctober 2019, The Kennel Club will be hosting Discover Dogs. Caroline McCormick Smith has informed me that the SGHC will not be represented this year due to lack of support. Last year Mike & Ann Lewis designed and arranged the Discover stand for the Club. This year they are the processing of moving so unable to help. Anyone interested in working on the stand for Discover Dogs next year should contact the secretary Carolyn McCormick Smith. I am sure she would be happy to go through the necessary requirements. You do not need to be show orientated just willing to spend a day talking to people about our breed While I report our absence, all is not gloom and doom as the Salukis will be represented, for the first time ever, in the Agility Competition. Congratulations to Masha Shaverneva and her fabulous Altai for qualifying. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to hearing how he gets on. Watch out border collies there is a new force in town!.. The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club is holding their Championship Show on Sunday 20thOctober at the Kennel Club Building (West Hall) Stoneleigh Park Warwickshire CV8 2LZ. Judging will be Elaine Stanmore with an excellent entry of 86 dogs making 90 entries. Helena Haywood has asked me to put a note in, that SGHC calendars will be available at £8.50 each. From what I have seen of them they are quite spectacular and will make great Christmas presents. Nicola Warner will have copies of the ‘Illustrated Standard of the Saluki’ for sale at the show. This will be available for £2.50. No need to bring a lunch as there will be food available all day long. There will be lots more interesting stands with items available all Saluki orientated. The Kennel Club is doing a survey regarding the JCF. The deadline for completion is 18thOctober. You can find it at http://bit.ly/JCFSurvey. Paper copies are available from the KC by phoning 01296 318540 and asking for the JCF team. here to edit.
