Masha Shaverneva has kindly sent some agility news from Altai. “Like most of the UK we have been hibernating at home since December. The Agility Club has recently announced it’s yearly awards for 2020, which was a much shorter and smaller agility competition season but there still were a fair few KC agility shows during summer and autumn around the UK. The award is calculated by points gained for clear runs and places at KC shows. I am very proud to report that Altai (Qazal Sarbaz Har Kala Rachi (imp Bel)) is the winner in his competition category – Large Grade 2.” WOW well done to team Altai. When we allowed to get out and about, an interesting place to visit is The Natural History Museum atTring which was the private museum of Lionel Walter, 2nd Baron Rothschild; today it is under the control of the Natural History Museum, London. It houses one of the finest collections of stuffed mammals, birds, reptiles and insects in the United Kingdom. It was known as the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum until April 2007. Themuseum is located on Akeman Street, in Tring, Hertfordshire. It is home to two stuffed Salukis. One is Luman, a light red.. The Hon Florence Amhurst did own a Luman, not sure if he is the same one. He was born in 1895 in Egypt and came from the Tahawi tripe. The other Saluki, also a male is Lance of Anatolia. I cannot find any additional information on him. If you manage to visit the museum then have a look for Barn & Windmill on Icknield Way. The Barn & Windmill was the original home of Don Wiedon and his Sedeki Salukis. He rennervated the windmill joining it to the barn. There was a big feature in one of the Home *& Garden magazines in the 1960/1970s, Don hosted many wonderful parties there, I am told. The Northern Saluki Club has just compiled a booklet entitled ‘Buying a Saluki Puppy Advice’. It is an excellent publication that gives the prospective purchaser of a Saluki what to look for and what questions to ask. It is available through the secretary of the NSC, John Owen either from their web site www.NORTHERNSALUKICLUB.CO.UK or telephone number 01158 776960. Further to my comments last week about Windsor Show, the Committee have posted the following. “Windsor Dog Sow is aware of the announcement that the Windsor Horse Show is going ahead of the 1stto 4thJuly the same as the dog show. We are still considering all of our options and will make a statement in due course” Helen Williams Kasaquw565@gmail.com here to edit.
