13th My 2022

No notes last week because Michael and myself for the first time in 3 years
went on a short holiday, using an airplane.  If anyone tells you compiling the
appropriate paperwork for a flight is simple that have not flown anywhere.  We spent nearly two hours working Covid related information only to arrive at the airport and find we did not have the necessary documents.  Fortunately, on two accounts we made it on the plane, the first, the plane was delayed and two, some young people did it for us in about two minutes flat.  Returning to the UK was much easier.  We did have a lovely time.

Mary Sanders Parker was judging at WELKS Championship Dog Show.  The weather was fine and we were all able to sit outside to watch the judging.  All rings were busy, I do not think it was necessary for any judging to be held indoors.  DCC, BOB for his third and qualifying CC was Sarah Sawyer’s Canerikie Lucan At Bumpkiss.  He was born on the 25 August 2016.  His breeders are Barry Mansell & Joslyn Duddell. His sire is Ch Jorjenjo Mirzam of Fernlark JW and his dam Ch Jasmine of Canrikie (IMP ITA) JW.  RDCC went to Victoria Martin’s Mumtaz Pallas For Stalwart.  BCC for her first CC went to Mr S Fletcher & Miss L Merryweather’s Ul-Ubaid’s Bedouin Al Khalifa to Ynchreenoo.  She was born on the 16th January 2021.  Her breeder is Ben Van Der Moezel. Her sire is Samarin Sharp Dressed Man and her dam is El-Ubaid’s Venus Nubian Queen.  RBCC went to Ms C.E. Knowles’ Micattura All I Breathe Of Mahziba
Best Special Beginner went to miss J Bater’s Safida Khatam Magma.  Well done all!
Unfortunately, seven days after the show our young bitch has started coughing with Kennel Cough which I always thought was more of a problem at indoor shows.

Peter Broadbent has messaged me that Border Counties Hound Club Open Show will be held on the same day and same place as Leeds Championship Show.  Schedules for Leeds Championship Show can be obtained through Higham Press.  Judging Salukis is Carole Seymour.  Schedules for Border Hound can be found on Fosse Data.  The judge for the Open Show is Kevin Young with 4 classes. Digressing, Border Counties use to hold their Championship Show in Harrogate.  The town was so wonderful and the show seemed to coincide with a flower show.
We spent every available moment walking around, seeing the beautiful spa town.  No wonder Agatha Christie decided to hide out there.

Last Saturday (7th May 2022) the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club held a SGM on Zoom.  A new Committee is in place.  The Officers are President, Michael Williams, Vice President, Patricia Ulyatt, Secretary, Michelle Ulyatt, Treasurer, Jeannette Glaister.  Committee members are Anna Freegard, Chairman, Ben Freegard, Jane Hepburn, Lynn Ward, Kathy Harding, Mike Strong.  It means we have a full committee to proceed with our activities for the Centennial.  It was wonderful seeing a very large group of Salukiphiles even if it was on the computer screen.  Hopefully next year we will all be together for the events which I hope to print the agenda next week.

There will not be a photo competition for the calendar this year, though the calendar will be printed.  It will be a very special calendar to commemorate our Club’s Centennial.
