Crufts fever is definitely in the wind now that entries have been announced. Our judge, Paul Shimmin, has an entry of 104 dogs, a small increase compared to last year. Caroline Pickering will be organizing and coordinating one of her fabulous after judging parties. As this will be Paul’s last judging appointment it will be an extra special event. Caroline will be posting more information on Northern Saluki Club and Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club, social media sites and I will do the same in the Breed notes.
The Kennel Club has been posting new information and updates to the judging systems on a regular basis. Recently they have posted a scheme for ‘The Veteran Warrant’.
This is to encourage exhibitors to enter additional dogs at general open shows. It also forms part of a range of awards available to a dog throughout its showing career. As the objective is to support entries at open shows, points may be claimed only from general open and group open shows and no points will be available at championship shows. For more information go on Kennel Club web site.
The Kennel Club puts all the recognized breeds into bands. These bands reflect the amount of dogs registered and exhibited throughout the year. Each band has a slightly different description. The Salukis are in Band ‘B”. This means to qualify for a Stud Book Number you need to win a 1stor 2ndat a Championship Show. A dog will also qualify for an entry in the stud book if you win a Challenge Certificate or a Reserve Challenge Certificate, or a Junior Warrant. This stud book number qualifies you for entering Crufts, for the life of the dog, and you get a lovely certificate through the post.
Another judge for Salukis, 2020 has been announced. Jean Wright will be judging at Bournemouth.
