A big thank you to Steve Ham for sharing a lovely photo of Buzz Faber celebrating her 85thbirthday. She is looking very well sitting with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, which she was given to commemorate the day. Pleased, that she is being well looked after in the care home. More is the pity that no one can visit her yet. Maybe soon. On a sadder note, I have received notification of the passing of Mick (Michael) Spooner from a heart attack. Mick and his wife Sally exhibited their Salukis in the 1990s. Their prefix was Manzemar. Before obtaining a Saluki they exhibited Afghans. Mick approached us asking if he could have a Saluki as he wanted his own dog to show while Sally was busy exhibiting the Afghans. We offered him a male, as the original planned purchaser had unexpectedly died, that was Kasaque Ezekiel. He was a son of Ch Shamal Kharaz and Ch Kasaque Dharmas. What a wonderful start it was for Mick as he and Zeke accrued 23 CCs along the way. Their second Champion was Kasaque Firuze, winner of 5 CCS. Firuze was a son of Saklawi Baksheesh and Ch Kasaque Dharmas. With the Manzemar prefix the Spooner’s bred three litters. Our condolences to his family. Anna Freegard PRO of the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club has posted the following regarding their upcoming 2021 Shows. “There is much to look forward to, after a difficult 12 months for all. The Committee is keen to welcome you all at the Open & Limit shows on June 27th2021. We are scheduling a Champion’s class so you can bring the whole Saluki family. There is a welfare parade and equally importantly a (un) healthy variety of cakes on offer. For those of you unfamiliar with the venue, I’d like to reassure you on the set up regarding it’s suitability for a show in this climate. There is a large, open sided marquee with plenty of room for those of you who wish to bring your own set ups. There is a large car park, which can be seen from the ring and you can park as far away from other’s nearby vehicles as you need to. The clubhouse has a serving hatch externally accessible and we can organise a sensible approach to the facilities. Please join us if you can; we cannot wait to be with friends Diane Layton-Smith has posted “May I just add that there will be food available all day from breakfast, as we will have to start early, through lunch to afternoon tea. ‘It is rumoured that the ever popular, Bernies’ Jazz Café will be open for business as usual.” At this show there are usually trade stands, welfare stands, club trophies and raffles, which should make the day out special. The Northern Saluki Club are planning on holding two AGMs on March 28th2021. More from the NSC, they are holding a three-part series on ‘The History and origins of our Saluki’ These webinars will be held over Zoom and lead by experienced members of the Committee and invited guest speaks using both newly created materials and educational materials from their archives This will be accessible for both NSC Members and non-members, including those overseas. Invitations have been sent to those wishing to attend the first session but as it has been oversubscribed, the NSC will be putting on an additions session so they can accommodate all those interested in attending. For further information please contactannacornock@hotmail.com or telephone Anna on 07814 264217 City of Birmingham is unfortunately cancelled because Stoneleigh where they hold their shows is being used for Covid testing and inoculations. What a pity as many breed clubs had also joined them for that date at that venue. Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show which was to be held on the 21st-23rdMay will not going ahead. They are in discussion to possibly rescheduling the show at a later date this year. Further updates will be posted on the SKC website and their FB page. Following government announcement Three Counties show believes that they will be able to hold their show from the June 10-13. Other show secretaries are more cautious and feel that this instruction is aimed at organised seated venues and does not apply to dog shows. David Cavill from Southern Counties said in a statement : “ As things stand we are intending to try, but if the WKC* date becomes available we will probably go for that. Southern Counties show-ground committee are meeting regularly to discuss option and we think we have 4 weeks before we have to make a 21stdeadline might be brought back” *The WKC dates are no longer an option as the Blackpool Championship Show will now be held on those dates. No news on the fate of Windsor Championship Show. It would be quite fun the combine the horse show and the dog show together. It would probably be an organizers nightmare, but fun. UK Sighthound Sport have announced their revised schedule for 2021. They have said “With so many other shows and activities trying to rearrange and basically a year’s worth of events being packed into a few months, then there are bound to be future announcements of events that will clash with these dates. We have now stick with our proposal and hope to see as many of you as possible at each one. “ 21stMarch AGM-Zoom Meeting; Trials day 25thApril at Moreton in Marsh, Glos.
