We spent a wonderful day, yesterday, at Southern Counties Championship Show.
The weather was perfect, sunny and not too warm for the spectators and the dogs. Rings were immaculately presented with short grass in the rings with a little longer grass outside the rings.  We were allowed to sit close to the ring for observation though there was plenty of room so people were not crowded.  People in the rings wore their masks as did the judge.  Pleased to see there was plenty of room for the tents and gazebos.  I think this may be the pattern for our shows in the future.  Maybe we will retain benching just for in door shows Congratulations to the Committee for putting together a wonderful show.

It was wonderful seeing everyone at the show.  It felt like we were being liberated after a long incarceration which it was.  It was especially good seeing Phyllida Cooke.   In a conversation with Phyllida, she mentioned that if you go to the Southern Counties Facebook page and scroll down, there are old photos of “Dog Days at Hastings’, It says:” Some Distinguished Quadrupeds and their Proud Owners at the Southern Counties Canine Association Show”.  It was the year 1915 and SCCS’ 5th Championship Show.   Phyllida’s grandmother was there, Mrs Vlasto, with her Addlestone Borzoi.  Phyllida’s mother also use to show dachshunds. I wish we could exhibit in those beautiful hats which were in fashion then.

Judging Salukis at SCCS was Martin Green.  BCC, BOB for her second CC was Anna & Ben Freegard’s Jazalle Athena For Mumtaz with the RBCC to Nicola Warner & Bernie Hetherington’s Ch Canapus Rodinia At Savuka (IMP NDL).  DCC for his first CC went to Linda Aldous & Jeannette Glaister’s Jay JP Sea Bird El Panjsher (IMP JPN) JW.  He was born on the 28th October 2018, his breeder is Jay Ito.  His sire is J.A.Y. JP Love at first Sight and dam Viktoria Kelenvorn S Berga Turi.  RDCC went to Oxana Grigorenko Chippendale’s Imhotep Rears Natural Jasmine (IMP BEL).  BP & BJ was Christine Harrison and Hilary Davies’ Khamsin’s Phoenix At Charrioak. BV went Kathy Williams Ch Ber Ch Ulmarra Tropical Ice at Winton VW Well done all!!

A very special Happy Birthday to Brian Pether.  For all who do not know Brian, he ran our very successful coursing section for many years.  He was a championship show judge for Saluki and is an Honorary Vice-President of the SGHC. We hope he has a great day.

There has been a change of judges at Bournemouth Canine Association Show which will be held Sunday 15thAugust.  Espen Engh, not surprisingly is unable to judge so the replacement judge will be Debbie Copperthwaite. Paper entries must be made by the 2nd July with on-line entries up to 16th July on Higham Press.  For a schedule contact the secretary Sally Duffin on 01258 857721.
