In front of me I have a copy of the Kennel Club Breed Supplement for summer 2019.  That is breed records for April through to June 2019.  There were 38 new registrations from 5 litters.  Some of the dogs are totally unrecognizable to me. I hope the Kennel Club, as the guarding of pure bred dogs is looking at the breedings and the frequency of registrations from the dams of these litters  The rule says that we are not allowed to breed from a bitch twice in 12 months. There was one importation of Canapus Fortuna (IMP NDL).  It is a dog bred by M F. S Van Der Drift.  His sire is Canapus Rembrandt and dam Canapus Awn Iskandraya.  His owner is Ms. J. Clanford.  One new Champion is listed, Al Caliphs Anjal Bey owned by Mrs D Copperthwaite.  One Junior Warrant, Classicus Antigone, owned by Mrs M E. Sanders-Parker .

Last Monday Bournemouth Championship Show was held. Judging Salukis with Challenge Certificates for the first time was Dave Cavill.  Two new youngster were on the podium.  DCC, BOB went to Peggy Postma and  Duncan Smith’s Fernlark Odyssey.  He was born on the 2ndOctober 2017 and his Breeders are Mr & Mrs K Goulden.  His sire is Ch Fernlark By Design JW and his dam is Ch Glenoak Kira of Fernlark.  RDCC went to John & Caroline Owen’s Ch Caryna Curetes.  BCC, for her first went to Elaine Sydney’s  Esj Ch Shaybani Amunet Ebony.  She was born on the 29thOctober 2017 and her breeder is her owner. Her sire is Multi Ch Aziz Luxor and her dam is Multi Ch Daxlore Harani of Shaybani.  RBCC to  Tony & Liz Quick’s Ch Noushzad Caliana At Jorjenjo (IMP GER).  Best Puppy for Diane Layton-Smith’s Velourias Pris Von Schmidt. Best Veteran went to the Owen’s Ch Caryna Curetes and Best Special Veteran to Ms L Ward’s Nicolefarhi Del Borghino (IMP IT)

News has come throughthat the Agiluki Altai ( Qazal Sarbaz Har Kala Rachi) owned by Marsh Shaverneva has qualified to attend  Discover Dogs.  Marsha has written that “ Two days of competition had to be cancelled which included the ‘Starters Cup’ semifinals at The KC International Agility Festival so the KC made a decision that the highest placed dogs after the first round will qualify for Discover Dogs. Altai is ranked 10th so look out for the Agiluki among Border Collies and Labradors in the Main Arena in Excell (Discover Dog) on Sunday October 13th Someone pinch me, Salukis don’t do agility they said ....”

We have received a nicely presented Newsletter from the SGHC.  One item that has been noted in the newsletter is that Kathy Webb after many years editing the magazine has now decided to retire.  The Committee thanks Kathy for her years of hard work.  Taking over is Diana Klein, who has been doing an excellent job as Newsletter editor. Diane has been involved with Salukis for many years, obtaining her first Saluki from Don Weiden.  We wish her the best of luck and hope everyone will support her in her new role.

The Club now has a new archivist.  Anna Freegard has agreed to take the job on.  It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this difficult job.

Included with the Newsletter was a schedule for the upcoming SGHC Championship Show, which will be held on Sunday 20thOctober 2018 at the Kennel Club Building.  Judging will be Frank Farrar (Sedeki Salukis), who now resides in the States. Postal entries close on Saturday 21stSeptember 2019 with the On-line entries, which can be made to Fossedata, up until midnight on Sunday 29thSeptember.  Postal entries, fees and queries can be made to Ms, N Warner on tel 01582 593881 or Email: savukawhippets@hotmail.co.uk.  Following the judging there will a get together with the judge, Frank Farrar, sponsored by the Committee and officers of the Club. At this show you will be able to obtain the 2020 Calendar, Welfare will also have a stall there.  Pauline and Don Everton will be holding a ‘Silent Auction’ with all proceeds to go towards the 100th Anniversary Fund. Offers of item and Saluki orientation items would be appreciated.  For further information on the ‘Silent Auction’ stall please contact Pauline or Don on 01799 543383.  Catering will be available all day from the ‘Farmers Fare’.  Anyone requiring a schedule please contact the secretary Carolyn McCormick Smith on tel. 01395 824133 or email her at secretary@salukiclub.co.uk

In last week’s note I wrote about the German Sighthound Show.  I did not put in how we fared.  I am pleased to say we were all graded excellent, though we were unplaced.  We were gratified after our long journey to have such a high grading in such a top quality competition.  One of the highlights was on the first day was Jenny & Steve  Macro’s Yalameh Samir Aza Nefisa competing with the ‘Yalameh’ Breeders Group to go Best in Show, Breeders Group.

Welsh Kennel Club was held last Friday.  A busy week with two Championship Shows in one week.  Judging Salukis was Andre Van Den Broek.  His BCC, BOB and later Hound Group 1 went to Ch Canerikie Catalina owned by the Mansell, Duddell & Johnston partnership. RBCC, Best Veteran and 3rdin Veteran Hound Group went to Katherine Williams’s Ch, Ber Ch Ulmarra Tropical Ice At Winton.  DCC went to the Goulden’s  Ch Fernlark By Design JW with the RDCC to his son, Fernlrk Odyssey JW owned by Peggy Postma and Duncan Smith. What a good day for Salukis in the Group judging.
