“The Saluki” Autumn/Winter is now available. Ann Shimmin wrote: (I do not think I could better her comments). “Received the Championship Show Edition of The Saluki this morning. Once again, a beautifully produced magazine filled with articles covering a variety of Saluki subjects. A very fitting tribute for Diana Klein as her personal final edition of the magazine. Completed with the support of her team when she was far from well. Thank you to all involved-and especially Diana”. The new editor will be Anna Freegard whom has written the editorial in this magazine. She has stated that the magazine will now be produced annually with the price reflecting this. They will be continuing with the digital subscriptions as well. I am sure Anna would appreciate any article, adverts and help in her new position. Long Live ‘The Saluki’ !! To obtain a copy of the magazine please text or telephone Natasha Hamilton on 07886492457 Last weekend, LKA, the final championship show of 2021 was held at the NEC. We were all required to be COVID cautious which meant face masks, proof from the NHS that we have had two inoculations or a negative COVID Test. We were all checked at the door to make sure we were compliant then given a wrist band to wear. I rather expected long waits to enter the hall. In actuality there was a double system in that you checked with the COVID team, showed them your documents then on to the next team to show them your entrance passes to the show. Many competitors knew Salukis were no longer the first in the ring from an announcement the night before, by LKA, so we missed the first rush of the day. For the near future this may be the way forward for indoor shows. All credit to the LKA Committee as the system worked like clockwork, Our judge for the show was Pam Marston-Pollock, a hound specialist. BCC, BOB was Nicola Warner & Berni Hetherington’s Ch Canapus Rodinia At Savuka, with RBCC to Clair Knowles’ Micattura All I Breathe of Mahziba. DCC went to Christine Campling’s Ch Classicus Octavius with RDCC to Adele Haddon’s Badavie Don Peppino At Ilsham. Best Puppy was our own Luachmhar Jadira Kasaque. Crufts entries are now available. Hounds will be judged on Friday 11th March 2022. Or judge is Mrs Adele Walton-Haddon.There will be no paper schedules. Postal entries close on Monday 10th January (PO Postmark). On-line entries can be make up until midnight Monday 24th January 2022 at www.crufts.org.uk As this year there will be no printed schedules, please go to www.crufts.org.uk where you can print an entry form if you wish to enter by post. The following arrangements have been made in consultation with the NEC who control all vehicle movement and parking at the venue. All car parking will change this year to on-line booking via www.thenec.co.uk/visitors/parking/On-line. Bookings will open mid-December. The rate of £12.00 per day will apply for dog exhibitors. The charge if paid on the day is £16.00. This week Michael and myself went to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, to see an exhibition entitled ‘Cultured Canines. It is a collaborative project between artist Alison Ksiazkiewicz and Attic Black. The museum states that “Authentics explore the history and mythologies of different dog breeds. The ceramic works displayed combine new design with ancient decorative and manufacturing techniques as reconstructed from Classical Greece.” One of the pieces is entitled ‘The Amherst Hydria’. There is a large Greek vessel which on it’s belly are two beautifully painted Salukis who are playing in the clouds. Her drawing are really quite lovely but it was a bit disappointing as we had hoped to see more of Ms Ksiazkiewicz work. There was only one small cabinet on display. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
