SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKENDING 24TH MARCH 2023.

With great sadness I post that the long time SGHC member, Hon Phyllida Cooke
sadly passed way on the 18th March 2023.   I will post her obituary in next week’s notes

Salukis have two breed clubs and as it happens both will be holding shows in April.  The Northern Saluki Club Championship show is on the 16th with Marie Bryce Smith judging.  On-line entries will be closing on 2nd April with Higham Press.  Saluki or Gazelle Club will we holding their show on the 23rd with Luke Johnston judging.  On-line entries with fosse data close on 3rd April.

A reminder that the NSC will be holding their AGM  25th March at Shirland Village Hall, Main Road, Shirland, Nr Alfreton DE55 6BB.  The meeting will commence at 1300.  Please contact the secretary, John Owen for a copy of the Agenda.

Crufts is now over for another year.  It is the show one hates and loves in equal proportions.  As hounds were judged on a Saturday, the NEC was extra busy.  After parking the car, photographing the sign with details of what car park we were in, the race begins to actually arrive at the NEC where the show was being held. Michael had a trolly loaded to the top with Centennial merchandise.  Pirkko our house guest, was pushing from behind while holding the Club banner.  Both of them having long legs, left me struggling just to keep up.  We made it.  One friend of ours has contact us to relate her experience, after judging, trying to locate her car. Upon arriving she was concerned about being late into the venue so omitted coping down the car location.  When she left the building, she ended up going round and round on the bus without a clue where her car was.

Salukis were judged in our usual ring with a good crowd around all day.  “The Saluki’ the magazine of the SGHC had a stand ringside manned by Ann Shimmin and Kathy Webb.  They were busy all day selling copies of the magazine both old and new, plus taking adverts for the next magazine which will be available at the SGHC Championship Show.  Along with them was Michael and the Club’s merchandise for the Centennial.   They seemed part of the meeting area for people coming a going.

After the judging a good crowd gathered around the breed club stand to raise a glass to toast the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club on it’s 100th birthday.   A short speech was delivered by Michael Williams. President of the SGHC. Caroline Pickering had made two beautiful cakes as not only was it the Club’s anniversary but it was also the Judge’s birthday.

Judging this year was Mrs Jenny Macro of Nefisa Salukis.   She had an entry of 101 Salukis.  Looking at the Fossedata web site, it appears that there were 15 absentees.  Of that 101 there were 18 dogs entered with ATC numbers from the Kennel Club.  This work out at 18% coming from outside the UK.  Pretty much back to entries before Covid.

DCC, BOB was Linda Aldous & Jeannette Glaister’s Ch Jay JP Sea Bird El Panjsher (IMP JPN) JW, who was shortlisted in the Hound Group, with the RDCC Christine Campling’s Ch Classicus Octavius.  BCC for her first CC was Natasha Hamilton’s LU Ch Alshamar Roxane (IMP BEL) JW.  She was born on the 24th September 2018, her breeder is Jessica Cabo & Jennie De May.  Her sire is It/LU Ch Alexandermcqueen Del Borghino and dam Int/Multi Ch Alushamar Mairanay.  RBCC went to Liana Phillips’ Luachmhar Jamilah.  Best puppy was Sharon Littlechild’s Ravensett  Musarra and Best Veteran was Ch Caryna Neferti JW ShCM owned by Denise Garratt & Sue Oakey.

On the Thursday of Cruft’s week the KC Breeders Competition was held. Congratulation to Kathy Williams of Tigisle Hounds who represented the Whippets
