Unfortunately we were unable to attend Beryl Payne’s funeral.  But our thought were with John and Adele during the difficult day.  Chris Ormsby, senior member of the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club and Past President of the Club has sent me a note regarding the passing of Beryl.  “I was so sorry to hear that Beryl Payne has died.  She was a great supporter of both the SGHC and the Northern Saluki Club and her passing is a great loss to both our clubs.

I have always been fond of Beryl. She and her partner took our breed forward with their carefully thought out breeding program, which produced some really quality Salukis.  Beryl was also a great influence in setting up the Northern Saluki Club, which has gone on from strength to strength.

On a personal note, I had one of the most exciting day of my showing career when at the Birmingham Championship Show, Beryl awarded my then Yazid Ghaneyna Best Bitch and Best of Breed From the Limit Class when she was still only young.  I will remember Beryl with much affection and respect.  My sympathies to Adele, John and their family”

Last Week the Northern Saluki Club held their Open Show.  Judge was Sue Virgo.  Her Best Of Breed, Best Veteran in Show was Denise Garratt & Sue Oakely’s Ch Caryna Meilichia Sh CM  Best Puppy, Reserve Best Puppy and Reserve Best in Show went to Mary Sanders  Parker’ Classicus Brirannia
Best Dog was Alan Bloomfield’sCh Glenoak Jibari JW Sh CM. Well done all!

A few more judges for 2017.  Hound Association of Scotland has Liz McKnight awarding CCs in Salukis for the first time.  Southern Counties also has a first time judge, awarding CCs in Salukis and that is Mr. MP, JM van der Broek.  I believe some years ago he judged at the SGHC Open Show.   Paignton will be judged by Mrs. Reina Clark.   One judge for 2018, Dr. Ron James will be judging us at Birmingham National.

Reading & District Kennel Association which will be held on Saturday 26th November has 3 Saluki Classes. The judge elect is Antony Bongiovanni.  Postal entries close of Tuesday 25th October 2016 or on-line Tuesday 1st November with Fosse data.  I understand the Slough District Council will be pulling down the Montem Leisure Centre and this is the last year clubs can use the venue.  This will make life even more difficult for the Open Shows.  Hopefully they will find another useful venue.

Yesterday Driffield Championship show was held.  Judging Salukis was Mrs Gina Simpson.  BCC, BOB was Mary Sanders-Parker’s Noushzad Claudia-Classicus (Imp) JW for her first CC.  She was born on 14th December 2013.  Her breeder is Mrs Imke Berndt.  Her sire is Multi Ch Dahaqin Baqir and dam Multi Ch Pari-was Ohfra-Ori.  RBCC went to Josh Duddell, Barry Mansell & Luke Johnston’s Fernlark Schussboomer.  DCC went to Joan & Jimmie Cowie’s Ch Mumtaz Hercules with the RDCC to Caroline & John Owen’s Caryna Curetes.  Best Puppy was Jannette Glaister’s Vanechka Otis S Berega Turi (Imp). Well done all.
