Last weekend, besides having the first all-breed championship dog show since March 2020, the SGHC held their Limited and Open Shows. Traditionally the Open  Show has always and hopefully will remain the most important show in the SGHC’s calendar.  It is culminated with the BIS winner (subject to being a member of the Club) being presented with the ‘silver spoon’.   I am most grateful for Michelle Ulyatt for sending the following report and posting the results.

“After a year without our usual Club shows it was lovely to be able to get back together with the Saluki community for the Open and Limited Shows.  The committee did a fantastic job to pull it all together and keep us fed and watered throughout.  The atmosphere was friendly and warm and I think everyone was delighted to be out with their Salukis and seeing friends again.  Well done to all the winners and to the committee for making this such an enjoyable show despite the ongoing Covid restrictions”

Judging the Open show was Mrs Carolyn McCormick Smith.  She chose for her Best in Show, Best Bitch, Anna & Ben Freegard’s Jazalle Athena for Mumtaz.  This bitch has made a name for herself winning her second CC just two days earlier.  Previously she went Best in Show at the last Limited Show prior the pandemic.  Most likely it will not be long before she wins her title. Reserve Best Bitch was Alishamar Roxane JW (IMP BEL) owned by Natasha Hamilton.  Another shining star both in the show ring and on the lure coursing field.  She qualified for her JW just prior to the first lock down. Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex and Best Dog was Diane Layton-Smith’s Elviis al Noushafarin (IMP AUS).  Reserve Best Dog went to Linda Aldous & Jeanette Glaister’s JAY JP Sea Bird El Panjsher (IMP JPM) JW.  This dog won his first CC at SCCS two days before the show.  Another young dog who has consistently been in the cards in his short life.  Best Puppy went to the newly imported smooth male Khamsin’s Phoenix at Charrioak owned by Christine Harrison and Hilary Davies.  Best Veteran was Karen Fisher’s Ruweis Tagaada and best Smooth went to Ruweis Isad.

The Limited Show was judged by Mrs Susan Rhodes.  Best in Show was Classicus Olympia owned by Mary Sanders-Parker with the Reserve Best in Show to Natasha Hamilton’s Alishamar Roxane (IMNP BEL).  Best of Opposite sex was Nicola Quadling’s Classicus Alron.  Best Puppy in show went to Jane Hepburn’s Qatiifah Dahr Damyar at Azaba(IMP NOR)
The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club has posted:” THE SALUKI WALFARE FUND”
The officers and Committee of “The Saluki or Gazelle Hound (The SGHC)” wish to make it clear that the current situation with the above is nothing to do with business of The Club.  The SGHC is aware of the letters/emails from both sides in the dispute but it is not the intention of the SGHC to disseminate those letters email on behalf of either party. The policy of the SGHC is to never get involved in disputes between its Members.  The only occasion that the SGHC disseminates information from The Saluki Welfare Fund is official notifications provided by their Secretary on behalf of their Committee such as notification of their AGM, fund raising events or a change in their personnel.

Please note if you are a member of The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club, The Northern Saluki Club, or an owner of a rescue from The Saluki Welfare Fund then you are a member of The Saluki Welfare Fund.  Neither The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club nor The Northern Saluki Club is a “member” in its own entity.”

David Crane Hon Sec for the Welfare has sent the following:
“Saluki Welfare will be holding their AGM on Saturday 14th August subject to Goverment regulations. The meeting will commence at 1pm and is at the Fentham Meeting Room, Marsh Lane, Hampton in Arden Warwicks. B92 0AY. Numbers attending will be restricted to enable social distancing. Anyone wishing to submit items for the agenda should do so by Friday 23rd July to davidcrane@salukiwelfare.org.uk’’

A few judges for 2022 have been posted.  WELKS on 22nd April 2022 will be judged by Mrs. M. Sander-Parker, 27th May 2022 Mrs Lorraine Fitzgerald (first time) and South Wales to be held on 7th October 2022 will be judge by Hector Heathcote.

Unfortunately, South Eastern Hound Club has decided to cancel their Open Show for 2021.
