So pleased that Rosie Faber is now back home.  She was taken from her home on Thursday 20th April by thieves breaking into the house.  Buzz had not been out for long, when she returned home she noticed Rosie was gone.  Immediately, she contacted the world on social media sites and Dog Lost, reporting her abduction.  Buzz’s daughter flew over from Canada to help in the search so Buzz was free to go out and distribute leaflets.  As in many of these abductions the first clues to where she might be came from an innocent comment by someone seeing a dog that just did not seem to fit with the people she was with.  With this in mind, local suspect area were pelted with notices of Rosie’s missing.  We were hoping to make Rosie too hot to handle and they would let her go.  After a couple of weeks, Buzz’s’ daughter returned to Canada and Anna Morsing came over from Sweden and upped the anties.  We would like to think that with all the leaflets, prying eyes and unrelenting work, helped make a difference.  Buzz eventually received a telephone saying a  third party now had  her dog and  they made arrangements for her return.  To add to Buzz’s misery her beloved “Pharley” Ch Suffeina Pastel JW, decided enough was enough and at fifteen years of age it was time to say goodby.

Last Monday on a very rainy bank holiday, Bath Championship Show was held.  We had classes for Saluki but Challenge Certificates  are not available for Salukis at this show until 2019.  Our judge was Ms Martine Smithson.  She chose for her Best Dog/Best Veteran Ham, Bockman-Chato and Elliot-Ross partnership Ch Baghdad Karim (Imp) Sh CM, Ch Baghdad Karim with the RBB  to Deborah Copperthwaite’S  Noushzad Caliph.  Best Bitch went to Denise Garratt, Sue Oakey’s Ch Caryna Meilichia with the Res Best bitch to Diane Layton Smith’s Velourias Viva Vivienne.    Best Puppy, 2nd in Puppy Group was Josh Duddell , Barry Mansell’s  and Luke Johnston’s Canerikie Catalina

After the judging of Bath Championship Show, South West Hound held their Open Show.  Judging us was Luke Johnston.  Best of Breed went to the Goulden’s Fernlark By Design JW with Reserve Best of Breed to our own Al Zubeyda Lena At Kasaque (imp Fra) JW.  Pity the weather was not better

The schedule for South Eastern Hound Club has come.  This show is always a highlight on the late summer dog show scene. Judging us this year will be Caroline McCormick-Smith.  The Saluki Club will be sponsoring rosettes for BOB, RBOB, BP and prize money of 5.00 for BOB and BP. This will take place on Sunday 3rd September 2017 at the Hickstead Showgrounds, West Sussex BN6 9HS.  This is the Club’s Golden Garden Party Show with the usual great picnics.  Entries close on 10th August, Schedules can be obtained from Fosse Data. I will let you know who be co-ordinating the lunch at a closer to the date.

The first of two SGMs took place on the 27th May 2017 at the Kennel Club Building.  Sitting in the chair was Robert Greaves.  The only item on the agenda was to set a up new Committee for the Saluki Club.  According to the notification we received, prior to the meeting, that this was an interim committee and the regular committee will be elected next April.  Mr Greaves was very specific in stating that he wanted nine members on the Committee.  In attendance were 21 people, it was reminiscent of scenes in the House of Lords though I am pleased to say that I did not hear anyone snoring.  President/treasurer is Don Everton, Secretary is David Steel.  John Hudson resigned as Vice-President so that position is vacant.  The Committee members are as follows: Martin Green, Marie Bryce-Smith, Cecelia Andersson, Elaine Stanmore. Dr Sarah Williams, Peter Yardley, Pip Buswell.  Dr Sarah Williams has had to stand down as she has not been a member of the club for three years.  I understand that Kathy Webb, who did not have to be re-elected will yet again be the Chairman.

The following has been sent to me from Mr David Steel, Acting Hon Sec of SGHC.
“Special General Meeting Results:  The SGM made necessary by the resignations at the AGM, or shortly after, rendering t he committee inquorate took place on 27th May.  The meeting to elect new interim officers and committee members to serve to the next AGM was chaired by an independent chairman, who was accepted by the floor.  This resulted in the Treasurer ad Secretary’s roles being filled ad the election of 6 new committee members- a welcome increase in support and help.

Don Everton, agreed to extend the Acting Treasurer r ole he took on following the resignation of the Treasurer Elect at the AGM.  He is  therefore now Acting Treasurer until the next AGM.

David Steel was appointed to the role of Secretary on an interim basis until the next AGM.  Consequently, he resigns his role as Ordinary Committee Member, in line with club rules

The six new committee members elected at the SGM who will now serve until the next AGM are: Cecilia Andersson, Marie Bryce-Smith, Pip Buswell, Martin Green, Elaine Stanmore, Peter Yardley

Overall with Kathy Webb who was already in post,  this means the SGHC Committee now stands at 9 members, the largest the club has had in a number of years.

At the inaugural meeting of the new committee, Kathy Webb was elected as Chairman of the Committee.  Alongside some basic housekeeping, several focus areas to move the club forward following the recent issues were identified.  These will be developed over the next weeks and discussed in more detail at the first full committee meeting.”
