UK Sighthound Sports will be having their National Championship on the 2nd October 2022 at Stratford Racecourse, Warwickshire.  It is great fun for the Salukis also a good way to keep them fit.  The rules are you must have a license to ensure the safety of your hound and the hound you may be competing against.  To obtain the qualification you need to attend the ‘trials’ which are in March and July.   All locations and dates will be confirmed next year.  For further information contact www.uksighthoundsport.com.   The SGHC is in the process of organizing events for lure coursing where dogs can train and get experience in running after a lure.

Schedule and a newsletter from the SGHC are on their way to members.  Unfortunately, we have not received ours as yet so can not report the newsletter’s contents.  I can report that the show will be held on the 16th October.  Judging will be Jeanette Cotterill of Miskanda Salukis.  It will be a busy day with the Club bringing out their Centennial memorabilia items like, mugs, tee shirts, sweatshirts, and hats plus a few general club goodies. A couple of the highlights of the day, besides the judging will be ‘The Saluki’ the magazine of the SGHC, compiled by Ann Shimmin and Kathy Webb. I know they have been working hard compiling a bumper magazine.  The SGHC 2023 Calendar will also be available thanks to the efforts of Carol and Chris MacKenzie Loughran.   Which reminds me please bring donations for the club’s raffle.  The Welfare stand will be there, food available all day to purchase.  You do not have to show to attend.

Jeannette Glaister is running an auction of books and magazines donated by Annette and Brian Buckley and Sue Oakley.  There are some very important books that have been donated including a complete set of “The Saluki Book of Champions from 1923-2005. Other books include Vera Watkins “Saluki Companion of Kings” and “The Complete Saluki” by Diana & Ken Allan.  This is just to name a few.  The entire list can be found on NEW The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Centenary Information & Merchandise web site.

John Walton Haddon has posted that he is working on the Club’s judging lists.  He asks that any UK judge who are currently on the B or C lists contact him so that he can update your details.

Last Friday City of Birmingham held their Championship Show.  Judging Salukis at this level for the first time was Sue Virgo.  Best Dog & Best of Breed went to Rosalie Brady’s Ch Classicus Azim For Bordercot with the RDCC to Adele Haddon’s Badavie Don Peppino at Ilsham AW for their 9th RCC.  BCC for her second CC went to our own Luachmhar Jadira Kasaque with the RBCC to Mary Sanders Parker’s Ch Classicus Olympia.  Best Puppy was Christina Campling’s Classicus Faizan.  Best Veteran and 2nd in Veteran Hound Group was Kathy Williams’ Ch/Ber Ch Ulmarra Tropical Ice at Winton VW.  What a wonderful show career this little bitch has had and still going strong at 13 years of age.  Best Junior was Mary Sanders Parker’s Classicus Felicitas.

Well done all!!

I have received a note from Chris Lewis with news that the Knightellington story continues.  He said a dog he sent out to the States from their last litter here has sired a litter in the States.  This was part of the dream of Rosemary before she passed away.  To hear all the details please contact Chris on 07761 288733.
