SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKENDING 14TH APRIL 2017.

Unfortunately the last couple of weeks there have been no notes.  It has been due to the lack of Saluki related news about.  Please do keep me informed with what is happening or your thoughts, as long as they are positive.

Saturday, the Hound Association of Scotland held their Championship Show.  Judging Salukis at that level for the first time was Liz Mc Knight.  She chose for her DCC, BOB Ch Classicus Cassander JW Sh CM owned by Jeannette Glaister & Alan Glaister with the RDCC to Joan & Jimmy Cowie’s Ch Mumtaz Hercules Sh CM.  BCC for her second CC went to Fernlark Schussboomer owned by Josh Duddell, Brian Mansell and Luke Johnston.  RBCC went to Paul and Ann Shimmin’s Hislolme’s Leonore Mish Cranstal  (IMP SWE).  Best Puppy was Canerikie Lucan at Bumpkiss owned by Mrs S Sawer.  Well done all.

In the latest copy of the Kennel Club Gazette there is the Transfer of the ‘Affix’ Fernlark from Sheryl Steer to Mr & Mrs Goulden.

Yesterday the SGHC held their Limited Show.  Judging us was Ms Andrea Ireson.  The show was well run and my congratulations  to the hard working Committee of Anji Jackson Main, Diane Layton- Smith and David Steel for their efforts.  The kitchen had a steady flow of customers all day with culinary delights supplied and served by Berni Hetherington and Nicola Warner.  Thanks you all for making the show part of our day, so enjoyable.  Interestingly, later on in the day, at he AGM, there was a motion by some members of the ‘Club’ to discontinue the Limited Show.  I am pleased to say that this motion was well defeated as it is a relaxed fun show and wonderful training for new Saluki judges.

Best in Show, at the Limited Show was Pauline and Don Everton’s Kasra Zeleka with the Reserve Best in Show to El Hamrah Mansur of Kasaque (Imp Fin) owned by Emma Darby and co-owned with Michael and myself.  Best Puppy was Glenoak Leilah owned by Lisa and John Hudson.

After the Limited Show, the AGM of the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club was held.  I attended with my press badge on so I feel that I can freely report what happened.  The new President of the SGHC will be Don Everton, Honorary Vice Presidents are Tessa Abbott and Brian Pether.  Elected Treasurer was Diane Layton-Smith, who stated that she would not be taking up the post.  Committee members are Kathy Webb, David Steel and Anji Jackson-Main.  Anji has also withdrawn as a Committee member.

Judge for the 2018 Limited show are Maya Monk-Schenk, Open Show 2018 is Lorraine Fitzgerald and Championship Show 2019 Frank Farrar.

Club Colour trophies were discussed as some members felt they were an anti climax at the end of a championship show.  It has been decided to hold them in abeyance for two years and then to reconsider their fate.

Lure Coursing was discussed and there is a new Sub Committee. This subsection will have membership as did the old Coursing section.

Joanne Mahon has approval for an Education Committee.

In any other business Joanne Mahon brought up the difficulties amongst the Committee that have caused members to withdraw from further serving the Club.  At that time the Secretary, Michael McCormick Smith stated that he too was unable to remain on the Committee working with one of the Committee members.  Sadly this now leaves our Club without a quorum.  I believe we will need to hold a Special General Meeting to elect a new Committee.  This will have to be reported to the Kennel Club as we are no longer a functioning club.  This is a very sad state of affairs for the oldest Saluki Club in the World.  As news is available on this ongoing situation I will report it in the notes

At the close of the meeting there was a big thank you to the Committee members for the wonderful Limited show.
