SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKENDING 28THJUNE 2019.

Results of the Top Dog and Top Puppy for the first half of 2019 have been announced.  Top Dog is Debbie Copperthaite’s Al Caliphs Anjal Bey.  He has pretty much dominated the Dog Challenge Certificates this year since Crufts .  Top Puppy is Mary Sanders Parker’s Classicus Antigone.

About a year ago Masha Shaverneva decided to retire her young Saluki, Altai, from the ‘showring’ .  My hat goes off to her as she and Altai have become a fantastic team in the agility world.   Working with her Agiluki has been very demanding as they have to work as a team, she directs him to his next challenge or jump and she must be looking for what comes next.  Congratulations to both of them and the success they are having.   Maybe we will see him at Crufts next year, not in the Saluki ring but in the big competitive agility ring challenging the collies.

The Breed Record Supplement for the first quarter of 2019 has finally arrived .  For the first quarter there were two litters with nine puppies registered at the Kennel Club. One litter had 7 puppies and the other 2 puppies.  I am unfamiliar with either of their breedings..  During this period there were 5 importations. Alishamar Rafael from Belgium owned by Mr P Kiernan.  Alishamar Raven from Belguim owned by Mrs E Rooney, Alishmar Roxanne owned by Ms N Hamilton.  JAY JP Sea Bird El Panjsher was imported from Japan and owned by Linda Aldours and finally Ir Ch Ulmarra Naa imported from Ireland and is owned by Mr & Mrs S & P Mottershaw.  Two Export Pedigrees were issued one to Spain and one to Norway.  There was one new Champions Certificate awarded to Classicus Britannia owned by Mrs ME Sanders-Parker.  Junior Warrants were issued to Mra PA & Dr MA Ulyatt’s Fernlark Legend of Cornhaze and DR P Postma and Mr D Smith’s Fernalk Odyssey.

Recently I was speaking to Michelle Ulyatt about her doctorate.  For her degree she wrote a ‘book, on Theodore Sorensen which while not dog related I thought the readership may find it interesting: “Theodore Sorensen and the Kennedys: A Life of Public Service, has been published by Palgrave Macmillan and is now available worldwide through most booksellers. I wrote the book between January 2018 and April 2019, with many a show weekend spent reviewing chapters and rewriting sections (and one or two printed chapter drafts chewed by a naughty puppy!). The book tells the story of the life and career of Theodore Sorensen, who was chief speechwriter and adviser to President John F. Kennedy between 1952 and 1963. After the President’s death, Sorensen acted as gatekeeper of the Kennedy legacy and continued to play an active role in American politics, until his own death in October 2010. The book takes up questions about the role of presidential advisers and focuses on the concept of public service. It has been 10 years in the making, with its roots in the PhD studies I completed at the University of Kent between 2006 and 2010. To have had the opportunity to publish this book and pay my own tribute to Sorensen’s extraordinary career is a dream”
come true for me and I want to thank our friends in the breed for all their encouragement and support.

Last Saturday Blackpool Championship Show took place.  For a change I understand it was in blazing sunshine.  Judging Salukis was Jeanette Cotterill of Miskanda Salukis.  DCC, BOB went to Debbie Copperthwaite’s Al Caliphs Anjal Bey with the RDCC to Jeanette Glaister’s Ch Vanechka Otis S Berega Turi (IMP RUS) JW Sh CM.  BCC went to Diane Layton-Smith’s Ch Velourias Viva Vivienne Sh CM with the RBCC to John & Lisa Hudson’s Glenoak Leilah.  Best Puppy was Diane Layton-Smith’s Velourias Pris Von  Well done all!
