Last Sunday, Windsor Championship Show was held. The show was well laid out with plenty of room inside and outside. Thankfully, we had benches for the dogs so there was order. We were 4th or 5th breed in our ring so we had plenty of time to pay a visit with Simon Parson at the Basenji ring. Simon had set up a table with drinks and nibbles as a get together for his partner, Glen Dymock, who recently passed away. It was a few moments to reflect on the loss of a lovely man who dedicated his life and career to the canine world. Judging Salukis at Windsor was Paul Singleton. DCC, BOB and Hound Group 1 went to Cathy Harding and Naomi Cowley’s Ch Classicus Odysseus At Ashahni with the RDCC to Linda Aldous and Jeannette Glaister’s Ch Jay Jp Dea Bird El Panjsher (IMP JPN) JW. BCC, BP went to the very excited and thrilled Dr Olga Woolmer’s Al Nadiseh Ivory Pearl (shown under and ATC number). She was born on 15th July 2022 and her breeder is Mrs Marina Solovyeva. Her sire is Salgrey’s Pyam and her dam Al Nafiseh Ghumra. RBCC went to the Farris, Cosentini, Dann, Ireson partnership’s Ch Jazallie Aneeqa. Best Veteran went to Debbie Copperthwaite’s Ch Al Caliphs Anjal Bey . Special Beginners to Lynell Zelenka’s Fernlark Belinda Shannie. Well done all.

Best Veteran went to `Liana Phillips’ Ch Vaidana Amira S Berega Turi (IMP RUS) ) ShCM Sh CEx. Congratulations on Amira taking 2nd place in the Veteran Group. I was delighted to pick up our long-awaited copy of “the Saluki”, the special Centennial issue, at The SGHC Championship Show. I know the editors, Ann Shimmin and Kathy Webb have worked very hard putting together this special issue. I also understand that there was so much effort putting the magazine together that Diana Duckenfield, the design and layout artist needed help from Lorraine Fitzgerald, Lina Hoggren and Kevin Walker-Smith to undertake the advert design. The choice of front cover and back cover were interesting, they were portraits by the very talented Anna Kecskes of Ch Orchard Shahin, who was the first British Saluki to achieve full champion status and his sire, Champion Sarona Kelb is on the back cover. The magazine is packed full of articles, some historical like the 1923 Saluki Standard by Brian Duggan or the interview with some well-known Saluki judges on the KC Saluki standard, in 2023. One of my favourite articles was by Tessa Abbott and the Burydown Inheritance. I could picture Tessa, the storyteller, telling me all about her life. The magazine was embellished with a variety of adverts making history and the future come alive with what is happening in our breed. I always find it interesting to reflect when reading old magazines on what was happening on a very personal level especially on planned litters. In this magazine there were some very clever advert designs. The magazine will be available to pick up at the SGHC October Championship Show or email kathy.webb99@icloud.com or telephone on 01737 353279 for subscriptions and rates In July two Salukis Children’s Books entitled “Saluki Basil” and “Saluki Basil Goes to The Sea” will be available on line. The publishing house that are publishing the Basil series is called Multa Verba Books or http:mvb.si/en? This a story of a Saluki named Basil a beautiful golden- brown dog and his life with people. It describes, in a humorous and evocative way, the habits of dogs and how they experience human habits. This short story for children reminds us of just how interesting life with a pet can be, and how animals’ unique characteristics make life interesting. That’s why we should respect pets and enjoy our moments together, without any expectations about how we should behave. The next book in the series of Saluki called Basil is entitled ‘Saluki Basil Goes To Sea” describes an attractive golden-brown dog and his adventures during his family’s summer vacation. In a humorous and vivid way, it describes a dog’s understanding of his family’s summertime habits when the visit the wonderful Žut Island in Croatia’s Kornati Archipelago. The short story for children shows us how the dog experiences his family’s travels to the island, his boat ride, swimming in the sea, and fishing. The story also shows us how our pets learn empathy. The situations that we find pleasant can be challenging for our pets. They need more time, along with plenty of patience and love. Basil the Saluki had to overcome his fear and immerse himself in an entirely new world. Helen Williams 07786936654 Kasaque565@gmail.com to edit. I have heard from many people how much they enjoyed the Centennial event at Hermitage Village Hall. One of the highlights which I did not mention in the Breed Notes last week was seeing Chris Ormsby along with Tessa & Tim Abbott. They were accompanied by their daughter Annabelle. Chris, like the SGHC, was born in 1923, what a wonderful spry lady she is. At the dinner she made a short speech about the dual functionality of our hounds and the importance of retaining this. Of course, in Chris’ day it was hare coursing which of course we cannot do now. There was a show of hands of people that actually did course their dogs with probably only 5 raising. We were pleased to be in that group plus we can say we still are running our hounds with the lure. Hopefully the SGHC will in due course set up some dates and venues for lure coursing. I will post when I hear what is going on. Until then there is only the UK Sighthound Sport’s four events to attend. Lynn Ward contacted me letting me know that Nicole (Nicolefarhi Del Borghino (IMP ITA) ) won at the UKSS Summer Championship her 3rd Lure Coursing Certificate making her a Lure Coursing Champion. Congratulations! Pamela Mottershaw has written to say that IR, JSY Ch Ulmarra Naa (IMP IRE) is now confirmed as a Jersey Champion. His 1st CC was awarded by Diana Spavin, the 2nd by David Cavill and the 3rd by Patsy Hollings. Sydney was bred in Ireland by Lynda Dunn. His Sire is IR Ch Ulmmra Club Oighear and Dam, Kaukab L_Hilal AT Ulmarra. Sydney is owned by Pamela and Stuart Mottershaw and Fiona Officer. Close on the heel of the SCCS Champ Show and the Centennial event was 3-Counties Championship Show. Judging was Martin Green. BOB, DCC for his third CC went to Adele Walton Haddons’ Badavie Don Peppino At Ilsham (IMP SWE). He was born on 20th Mar 2018 His Breeders are M Nordin & M Branden. Her breeders are Mrs N Warner & Mr B Hetherington. Her sire is Canapus Impala of Iskandraya, her dam is Ch Canapus Rodinia at Savuka (IMP NDL). RBCC went to Ch Jazalle Aneeqa owned by the Dann, Ireson, Farris & Consentini partnership. Best Puppy was Caryna Stephano to Abayomi owned by M Cannon & Miss F & D Wickstead Natasha Hamilton has contacted me, informing that Lu Ch Alishamar Roxane JW (IMP BEL) went Best in Show at Chelmsford and District Canine Society. BIS Judge was Richard Beall. Oxana Grigorenko has informed me that they have had another successful trip to France. She attended shows for two days, the first day was a Breed Specialty where Jazz (Imhotep Rears Natural Jasmine (IMP BEL) won BOB, CAC and CACIB. At that same show, Natasha Hamilton’s Lu Ch Alishamar Roxane JW (IMP BEL) won the CAC Good luck to all those travelling to Sweden for the Saluki Congress. Have a great time plus a shout to all the UKSS members competing in the International Lure trial. Wish we could be there to see you all. Helen Williams 07786936654 Kasaque565@gmail.com here to edit. SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKING 16TH JUNE 2023
Last week Comptonwood was a busy place with 12 Salukis in residence with 8 human house guests. It was actually enjoyable as most people helped where ever they could. Rana Spencer and Christine Stevens were visiting from Australia and Pirkko Kekalainen from Finland. All were having a wonderful time taking in shows and other events. Much of the conversations were, of course, about Salukis, not surprisingly. As last week was so busy, I just managed to report show results from Bath and Southern Counties Championship shows. I did want to give my impression of SCCS without benching. ‘We arrived around 9am, judging would not start until 9.30 am. We proceeded through a marquee which was near the ring designated for Salukis, what we saw was quite shocking; there were guide ropes on the side opposite from the rings which had behind them had people, cages, grooming tables and dogs, all crammed together. To put it succinctly, it was chaos We had brought our own chairs, so decided to sit at the base of the ring, where there was less crowding. Sitting there, we expected to see a sea of tents, but there were just a few considering how many exhibitors and dogs there were. Personally, our experience with taking a tent to a show was short lived. As far as we were concerned erecting the tent was far too much work, even more work later, trying to fit them back in their little cases. I cannot conceive how someone who has gone to a show on their own, could manage to erect a tent while holding on to their dog(s). It will be interesting to see how the ‘test’ proceeds regarding the benching issue. A reminder, anyone going to East of England, tents, and umbrellas will not be allowed plus ‘no benching’ and bring your own chairs. (Life use to be so simple) Friday, the day after SCCS, the long-awaited mid-summer gathering for the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Centennial celebration. A few hiccups along the way like a cool wind, to start. That soon died down, Managers of Hermitage Village Hall opened a gate giving us permission to drive our cars nearly ringside. The ring was decorated in centennial bunting added to the festive feeling. Around the ring were exhibitors, Club officials, Welfare Stand and my own stand with Saluki orientated ceramics. Kathy Webb was single handed looking after the stand with the Centennial issue of “The Saluki”. Everyone attending was offered a glass of fizzy and a danish pastry thanks to the magazine. Unfortunately, Ann Shimmin, who co-edited the magazine was stuck on the Isle of Man, where she lives. Hopefully she will have better luck and will be able to attend the Club’s October show. The KC representative arrived inspected all, was very pleased giving the Club an Excellent Grade. Congratulation to Anna Freegard for compiling all the necessary information. What really impressed the KC rep was the main hall in the Hermitage site. Tables were all laid out with black tablecloth, serviettes all had 1923 to 2023. At the end of the hall, overlooking all the elegantly dressed table was the Portrait of Brigadier General Lance with another portrait of his wife, the lovely Gladys. This area was tastefully decorated with memorabilia. The Kennel Club Rep looked, measured and commenting on how beautiful it all looked. Photos of the day both formally and informally were taken by Lorraine Fitzgerald. Judging the special championship show was Denise Garratt (Caryna Salukis). Stewarding was Sharon Oakey and Clair Cryssolor, a long-time member of the club who now resides in Texas. The Club was most fortunate that Clair was available to help out. We were delighted that she could fit the celebration into her schedule. Also, a special thanks to Clair for the special rosettes which she brought over from the States. BCC, BOB was Claire Knowles’ Ch Micattura All I Breathe of Mahziba with the RBCC to Liana Phillips’ Luachmhar Jala. DCC, RBIS went to the brother of the BCC J-m Stenson’s Ch Micattua All for me with RDCC to Mrs G Scarth’s Lunar Eclipse Radley Neshana Tova (IMP ISR). The BOB winner was given a Saluki tea pot created and designed my myself. Reserve BOB was given a beautiful scarf donated by Jayne Pyatt. I do regret that `I missed the photos in the end with the presentations. Best Puppy was Jeannette Glaister’s Jorjenjo Rafiq Al Khas and Best Veteran was Sivendra Tahmas Altaya owned by John & Caroline Owen & Elaine Stanmore. Following Best in Show was the ‘Parade of Champion’. President of the SGHC, Michael Williams with our grandson AJ Williams carried the official club Centennial banner around the ring with all the UK champion Salukis that were present on the day. Each dog wore wore a silk sashes saying “SGHC 1923-2023 Champion Parade”. Tessa Abbott wrote:” “What a lovely venue we really enjoyed the parade of champions and took some photos” The finally coupe de jour was the banquet. A sit-down Lebanese meal for 65 people in the handsomely decorated hall. Unfortunately, I am unable to post a picture as it was. We all toasted the Club on it’s big day. The food was delicious, everyone had plenty to eat and drink. My reflections are, thank you to the Committee for such a special day. Thank you to Rana Spencer, Christine Stevens, Alexis Williams and Steve Macro for all your hard work, on your holidays helping to pull the event together. Thank you to the Ann Shimmin and Kathy Webb not only for the magazine, breakfast, but also for the beautiful key ring that we will cherish. Helen Williams 07786936654 Kasaque565@gmail.com here to edit. It has been a very busy time here with shows, house guests, centennial activities and family get-together to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Hence, no Breed Notes last week. Shows are coming fast and furiously so I am trying to keep on top of them. I shall refrain from posting closing dates as they change on a daily basis. The first show I will review is SKC. Judging was Ben Reynolds-Frost. BCC, BOB was Claire Knowles’ CH Micattura All I Breathe of Mahziba with the RBCC to Liana Phillips’ Luachmhar Jamilah. DCC for his second CC went to Nicola Quadling’s Classicus Alron with Malenkhai. RDCC and BP was Jacki & Alan Bloomfields’ Caryna Hyperion. Best Veteran went to Sharon Oakey and Denise Garratt’s Ch Caryna Neferti JW Sh, CM. Best Special Beginner was Miss Simpson’s Dawn Zxylasahlaam . Next show was Bath with hound specialist Mark Cocozza judging. It was a very long day as Salukis were about the 5th breed in the appointed ring. Unfortunately, one breed that was judged in that ring proceeded very slowly casing the back-log. BCC, BOB went to Natasha Hamilton’s Lu Ch Alishamar Roxane (IMP BEL) for her second CC. with the RBCC to Mary Sanders Parker’s Classicus Felicitas. DCC for his third and qualifying CC went Tricia & Michelle Ulyatt’s Fernlark Legend of Cornhaze JW. He was born on the 15th August 2017 and his breeders are Mr KA & Mrs M Goulden. His sire is Ch Fernlark Alsace JW and his dam, Kirman Dafnia at Fernlark. RDCC went Ms J Stenson’s Ch Maicattura All for Me. Best Puppy was Caryna Stephano to Abayomi owned by the Cannon & Wikstead partnership. Best Veteran and group 2 in the Veteran challenge was Tony and Liz Quick’s Ch Noushzad Calliana at Jorjenjo (IMP GER) Well done all! On Thursday, just down the road from Bath was Southern Counties Championship Show. Judging there was Karin Hedberg from Sweden. DCC, BOB went to Ch Jay JP Sea Bird El Panjsher JW (IMP JPN) owned by Linda Aldous & Jeannette Glaister. RDCC went to Debbie Copperthwaite’s Ch Al Caliphs Anjal Bey. BCC went to the Ireson, Dann, Ferris & Consentini partnership’s, Ch Jazalle Anneqa with the RBCC to Diane Layton-Smith’s Velourias Dee Dee Vine. Best Veteran was Liana Phillips’ Ch Vidana Amira S Berga Turi (IMP RUS) ShCM ShCEx). Best. Junior was Mary Sanders Parker’s Classic Felicitas JW. Our busy time continued with the SGHC Championship Show and the Gala dinner on the Friday. I will review this next week. In the meantime, Ann Shimmin has messaged me with information regarding the Club’s magazine: ‘The Saluki Magazine will be enclosing a key ring celebrating the Centenary of the SGHC with every magazine that is purchased. Key rings will also be circulated to individual SGHC members in due course. Would recipients please check envelopes before disposing of them - to ensure that the keyrings are not inadvertently overlooked’. 26th May SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKENDING 26th MAY 2023
The Kennel Club has posted on their ‘Find a Judge’ website that Ute Lennartz will now be judging Crufts in 2024. Originally, she was judging Crufts 2025 Ann Shimmin has sent the following: “THE SALUKI MAGAZINE – CENTENARY EDITION will be on sale at The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Championship Show on Friday 2nd June. Cost per copy - for those collected from the Stand is £10 Subscriptions 2023: £13 – by post within UK* £18 - by post within Europe £25 – by post to the remainder of the world *Copies collected from The Saluki stands at either Crufts or SGHC Ch Shows will be available at £10. Any increase is always regretted but unfortunately it is impossible for The Magazine to absorb the sharp rise in postage costs (worldwide). For some countries postage now exceeds the price of The Saluki. As another part of the contribution to the Centenary Celebrations from The Magazine Team - all those attending will be greeted with ‘Bucks Fizz and Danish’ to start their day. We look forward to seeing everyone!” Anna Freegard, show contact for the SGHC has posted that gazebos and tents are welcome at the upcoming championship show. The plan is to have an ‘’outdoor’ show. Our sympathy to Peggy Postma on the passing of her husband Duncan Smith. There are no word that can that can console at this difficult time but our thoughts are with you. At the SGHC AGM the results of the ballots for judges at the Club’s shows was announced. Judging at the 2025 Championship shows will be Lorraine Fitzgerald and Ian Veal. Jeannette Glaister was elected unopposed to judge the 2024 Open Show and Heidi Woodgate was elected to judge the 2024 Limited Show. At the meeting it was also discussed changing the Club rule 19d which states “judges for the Club’s Championship Show must be Breed Specialists etc.” Not surprising with so many of our judges retiring plus the doubling of our CCs each year we are running out of judges. So, it has been suggested that next year the AGM ballot members to see if we can, as I preciously mentioned, alter this criterion to include “Hound Specialists”. Anna Freegard, Show Contact for the SGHC Centennial show, has posted the following “We have a number of very special and generous gifts as prizes coming up in the June Championship Show. We are so grateful to the people who have donated these items: Best In Show will win a special ceramic Teapot from Helen Williams. The Best Puppy in Show will win a portrait from respected artist Gabriele Schroeter. A set of Special Rosettes have been sourced and donated by Clair Cryssolor. Sara Williams donates a brooch in memory of her mother Joan McLeish for Best Cream in Show. Class winners will receive an SGHC Centennial mug filled with dog treats from Jenny Macro. The Saluki Magazine is providing Pastries and Fizz in the morning. The rosette for Best in Show is sponsored by Jeannette Glaister. The Best Puppy in Show rosette is sponsored in Memory of Liz Metcalfe, by Elaine Stanmore, who has also sponsored Reserve Best in Show in Memory of Anne McIntosh. Best Veteran in Show rosette is sponsored by the Freegard family. The Committee looks forward to seeing everyone at the special show.” Here is a reminder that there will be a raffle at the show so please bring raffle prizes. Entries for the SGHC June show are 73 dogs making 77 entries. 10 NFC. The Book Ferret has posted information on a new book by Antony Johnston entitled “The Dog Sitter Detective”. On the cover is a Salukis. It goes on to say” Meet Gwinny, an unlikely bloodhound and her four-legged friends determined to dig up the truth. Penniless GwinnyTuffel is delighted to attend her good friend Tina’s upmarket wedding. But when the big day ends with a dead body and not a happily-ever-after, Gwinny is left with a situation as crooked as a Dog’s hind leg. When her friend is accused of murder, Gwinny takes it upon herself to sniff out the true culprit. With a collection of larger-than-life suspects and two pedigree Salukis in tow, she is set to have a ruff time of it.” This book is available from the Book Ferret, due out on the 18th May 2023. Sounds like a fun read Last week Birmingham National Dog show was held. Judging Salukis was Ann Barrett. DCC, BOB went to Ms J Stenson’s Ch Micattura All For Me with the RDCC to Linda Aldous & Jeannette Glaister’s CH JP Sea Bird El Panjsher (IMP) JW. BCC for her first CC went to Diane Layton Smith’s Velourias Dee Dee Vine. She was born on 19th February 2021. Her owner is her breeder. Her sire is Elviis Al Noushafarin Velourias (IMP AUT) and her dam, Ch Velourias Viva Vivienne Sh CM with the RBCC to Natasha Hamilton’s Lux Ch Alishamar Roxane (IMP BEL) JW LC. Best Puppy was Miss Freya Cannon’s Caryna Stephano to Abayomi. Best Veteran went to Liana Phillips Ch Vidana Amira S Berga Turi (IMP RUS) ShCM ShCEx Congratulations to Alan Bloomfield’s Caryna Hyperion on passing his KC Silver Award. Any Comments or thoughts on the KCs new plan commencing from the beginning of July that if you have won 2 Challenge Certificates and 5 RCCS, all under different judges you can now qualify as a champion? to edit. SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKENDING 12th MAY 2023
Another early dead-line for the Breed Notes. We hope everyone enjoys watching the splendour of the Coronation and celebrating the crowing of the new King. Next Year, 2024, the SGHC will have two Championship Show with two sets of CC’s plus an Open and a Limited show. The Committee will be very busy. Last week WELKS held their championship show. Judging Salukis was Mrs Anne Macdonald. BCC, BOB was Ch Micattura All I Breathe of Mahziba owned by Ms C E Knowles with the RBCC to Denise Garratt & Sue Oakey’s Ch Caryna Remeny. DCC for his second CC wet to Adele Walton Haddon’s Badavie Don Peppino at Ilsham (IMP SWE) with the RDCC to Ms J Stenson’s Ch Micattura All for Me. Best Puppy was Mr M, Cannon & Miss F & Miss D Wickstead’s Caryna Stephano to Abayome. Best Veteran was Ch Caryna Neferti JW Sh CM owned by Denise Garratt & Sue Oakey. Well done all! Bank holiday Monday, so notes are in earlier then usual. Hopefully the weather will be kind so we can all enjoy the long weekend. Sadly, I must post the passing of Susan Oakley of Caspians Irish Setters and Salukis. Much will be written about Sue and her husband Mike in the Irish Setter Breed notes, as were generally less well known for their Salukis. We met Mike and Sue at a ringcraft class, Pearl, (Kasaque Jarvah) jumped into Mike’s lap. A very un-saluki thing to do. From that moment they were determined to have a Saluki in their lives. They approached Liz Stephens (Bedu Salukis) who had a litter at that time, purchasing a puppy. Later, we obtained a little fawn smooth bitch from them. We tried to use Christine Du Rot Hazzard’s Int Ch Arab Bahari Shaahin Taali (s) on one of our bitches. Unfortunately, this did not work out but Sue and Mike offered to let Taali be used on their Bedu L’Eghyphthe of Caspians, a pretty parti coloured bitch bred by Liz Stephens. From that litter we obtain Lalique or as she was more formally known as Ch Caspians L’Aliq Avec Kasaque. She was born on the 28th February 2004. She was the last smooth bitch champion in this country. Her son, Ch Kasaque Obidiah is the last living smooth, at time of this writing. Lalique produced champions, both smooth and feathered in Australia, Germany and International Champions besides English Champions. Besides being a very clever dog breeder, Sue was a fantastic artist, her work was distinctive and beautiful. One of her ceramic pieces was on display at the Festival of the Saluki 2007 at the Kennel Club Gallery. She also was a fantastic gardener, at one time her garden appeared in “The Yellow Book” produced by the National Garden Scheme. Rest in Peace, Sue. Last Sunday The Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club held their Championship Show at the Roade Village Hall nr Northants. Judging was Luke Johnston of Danluke Whippets. We arrived at the show with a car full, including two people, two dogs, beautiful mugs produced by Jenny Nacro for the class winner, and an assortment of other items. I must admit that the ride home, which I thought would have less items, had even more, including Brigadier General and Gladys Lance portraits. There was a good turnout for Luke to asses with few absentees. Best Bitch & Best of Breed went to Ms C E Knowles’ Ch Micattura All I Breathe of Mahziba with the RBB to Denise Garratt & Sue Oakey’s Caryna Esperanza. Reserve Best in in Show, Best of Opposite Sex in Show was Lind Aldous & Jeannette Glaister’s Ch Jay JP Sea Bird El Panjsher (IMP JPN) JW with RBD was Adele Walton Haddon’s Badavie Don Peppino At Ilsham (IMP SWE). Best Puppy was Mr M Cannon & lMiss F & Miss D Wickstead’s Caryna Stephano to Abayomi with RBP to Dr V J Velickaite’s Al Nafiseh Ivoary Pearl. Lunch at the show was produced and presented by Ben Freegard. Business was brisk especially at lunch time. Ben seemed to have a smile on his face most of the day, so I can but assume that all went well. Thankfully, at the SGHC summer Championship Show, Ben will be in charge so we can expect much of the same plus our extraordinary middle eastern feast. After lunch the Club’s AGM was held. It was well attended. The Club announced that in the future they will be holding two championship shows and a limit show. We will be losing our Open Show. I have not heard the fate of our beautiful silver spoon which is historically presented to the BIS winner of the Open Show. This change will not be implemented until 2025. Judging the Open Show in 2024 will be Jeannette Glaister, while judging the Championship show 2025 will be Lorraine Fitzgerald. The Club is looking into a change in the rule 19d changing from Breed Specialist to Hound Specialist for Championship Show judge. .
Very exciting times, in just over 4 weeks we will be celebrating the SGHC Centennial Summer Shows. On Thursday, 2nd June will be Southern Counties Championship Show with Karin Hedberg judging. Then the next day The SGHC Summer Centenary Championship Show with Denise Garratt judging. The show will be much more, with Saluki related items, including the extra special Centenary issue of “The Saluki”, the magazine of the SGHC. Editors Ann Shimmin and Kathy Webb have been working very hard to make this issue extra special. The ‘Welfare’ will be there with interesting item to purchase, helping welfare help unfortunate Salukis and their owners when they are in need. I am pleased to announce that I have been given permission to bring along some of my ceramics, some for exhibition and some which can be purchased. Then, a fter judging there will be a middle eastern lunch, which is available for all but must be prebooked. Information for the bookings are available in the schedule which along with SCCS can be found on Fosse data. Those coming from outside of the UK, you will need to request at ATC (Authority to Compete) form from the Kennel Club’s web site. Last Monday, along with about six other salukiphiles we attended the funeral of Phyllida Cooke. The ceremony was held in the most beautiful little chapel next to where Phyllida lived. There was standing room only as many wanted to say a final good bye. After the chapel service we went back to the family house for tea. It was lovely seeing all the photos and painting which were part of her history. Sebastian, her son, stated that the memorabilia would remain with him as they were his legacy. He did give a set of ‘double slips’ which he said were the clubs, to Karen Fisher, who said she would pass on to the Club . The slips were in beautiful condition as Sebastian had oiled and polished them for their return. Congratulation to Steve Ham, for winning with Hunter, Ravensett Ashkan, BPIB , BOB and Best Pupoy in Show at South West Hound Show. BOB under judge Alex Paisey and BPIS, Jan Paine. Good news from Natasha Hamilton on her quest for the ‘International’ title. She did it at Antwerp International Show on 16th April 2023. Now, she needs it be confirmed by the FCI but Artemis should now be an International Champion. She will now be known as Int Ch Lux Ch Alishamar Roxane JW LC. Judging was D Klein (RO) 1st Champion Bitch excellent, CAC, CACIB BOB. Pleased to receive an update from Masha Shaverneva on her special agility dog, Altai (Qazal Sarbaz Har Kala Rachi AW, “Back in January, Altai (Qazal Sarbaz Har Kala Rachi AW(S)) had a very good start to the year with two class wins which takes him to Grade 5 (out of 7 agility grades). We also received news that he was 2nd in the Lurcher & Sighthound Agility league.” Last Sunday, we attended the Northern Saluki Club Championship Show at the Alfreton Leisure Centre, just off the M1. It was really a super venue where the Club was able to set-up a large ring. The facility had a café so there was catering on site. During the lunch break there was a toast to the SGHC on the celebration of their 100th Anniversary. We raised our glasses then indulged in a beautifully decorated cake made by Kathy Webb.
