The South West Hound Show is to be held in conjunction with Bath Championship Show on 30th May. Judging Salukis will be Heidi Woodgate. Entries close on the 9th of May or online 16th May. Schedules can be viewed by going to the dog biz highampress site or to request a schedule please e-mail: glendavid.adams@btinternet.com . The Club will also be holding a show in conjunction with Paignton Ch Show on the 7th August. Schedules will be available soon. Every effort will be made for exhibitors to show at 2 shows at the same venue on the same day.

Last year we missed entering their show, which was held at the Bournemouth Championship Show, as we did not quite under stand the procedures.  For those that are questioning the judging will take place after the regular championship show so in essence you can participate in two shows at the same venue.

Peter Yardley the Chairman of the Saluki Welfare Fund has sent me the following regarding the 2016 AGM

“The AGM was held at the Fentham Meeting Rooms at Hampton in Arden and was well attended. Other than the standard items that occur at all meetings Reports etc. there was one proposed rule change as follows “Subject as mentioned below the policy and general management of the affairs of the Association (SWF) shall be directed by an executive committee (the Committee).

The Committee shall comprise:
The Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer (the Officers).

The Southern Welfare Warden and the Northern Welfare Warden as appointed from time to time by the SWF Committee.

Four members (at least two of which shall be members of either the SGHC or the NSC).”

The motion was put to a show of hands and was defeated. The meeting decided to leave things as they are with both Clubs appointing the Welfare Wardens.

Election of Officers.
Tania Stevens has retired as Welfare Officer for the southern area, David Hartley has retired as Warden for the northern area, Daphne Parnham has retired as Treasurer and Nicola Quadling stepped down from the position of Chairman. These have been onerous and challenging jobs and a big thank was given for their unstinting work. In particular Daphne who has over the years worked so hard raising funds, posting out cards and keeping a tally of our expenditure and general running costs must receive a special big thank you. Gifts in appreciation had not arrived in time for the AGM but I am assured they will be presented as soon as possible.

There were a number of nominations for the various positions, which were unopposed so no vote was called.

The Trustees
Chris Lewis, Elaine Rushton, Kathy Webb and David Hartley.

The Officers
Chairman – Peter Yardley, Vice chairman - Hilary Davies, Adrian Phillips – Treasurer and David Crane – Secretary

The Committee
Helena Haywood, Deb Steele, Maggie Evans and Patsy Fagan

A meeting of the new members of the Trustees and the Committee was held after the AGM. With no wardens in place at the moment the meeting decided that it would be all hands to the pumps to manage the current situation. In time a revised plan of action would be put in place defining roles, responsibilities and a structure for the Saluki Welfare Fund.

In the meantime we will all pull together for the benefit of salukis that have fallen on bad times.

David Hartley has informed me that  the date of the Saluki Walk at Earby for 2016 is Saturday 16th July 2016 at St Peter’s Methodist Church, Earby, Lancs.  David goes on to say that someone local has fenced off a field and is renting it for dog exercise, please let me know if a session there as part of our ramble would interest you. I can't decide myself if it would be marvelous to see a pack of sighthounds running free harmoniously or it would just end up in a brawl!

Pia Carnell along with her son Sebastian and daughter Cecilia are running the London Marathon. Pia has said she has come a long way, as she was ‘0% fit’ and now she is ready for the big event.  She has said the marathon will be a slow and steady journey.  Pia is asking for donations for the Parkinson’s UK.  Good luck to all three of them and I shall be looking for them in the hoards of runners.

Yesterday The Hound Association of Scotland held their Championship Show.  Judging Salukis was hound specialist Ben Reynolds-Frost.  DCC, BOB for his second CC was Kasaque Ra Frankel of Saruk owned by Marie Bryce-Smith with the RDCC and Best Puppy to Jibbe-Jibril Al Diibaajah (IMP) owned by Sylvia Pass and Sabine Horn.  BCC went to Josh Duddell and Barry Mansell’s Ch Jasmine of Canerikie JW (IMP Ita) with the RBCC to Hilary Davies and Christine Harrison’s Charrioak Sheerzam JW.  Well done all!
