It has been a very difficult week for all, with the cancellation of Windsor Championship
Show on the eve of it's opening.  Not so many weeks ago we attended Bath Championship Show in extreme heat.  It was utter madness trying to compete under the extreme temperatures of that day.  We managed, but with hindsight, maybe we should of
stayed home.  Windsor,  with advice from the ministry of weather, had
no choice.  They were in the centre of the heat wave.  Many schools closed,
those that did stay open adviced the attendees to wear their sports clothes as
​ they were much cooler than the usual blazers. Something I think, that
​ has never happened before.

​Windsor has always been a special show, certainly for us in the south.  Situated
just below the castle, on the Thames riverside, it is a highlight of the summer season.  
For me I  am proud to say I was invited to judge there.  The committee has
worked extremely hard to make sure this summer's show continued  as
the summer spectacular which it has always been known. For people coming from
 abroad this show was the one to attend, all the pomp and circumstance of
an iconic English event.  
This year, frequent  notification have come though that Windsor  will be more than
just a 'dog show' but it is a day's outing, with many side attractions including
cream teas and multiple vendors.  We have all lost something with the cancellation
of the day.  So, where to we go from here?  Windsor
​will definitely be out of pocket as will all of us but what can we do about it? ?
To start with, they can keep our entry fees, little as they are, if all do the same
they will certainly mount up.  The other thing is maybe set up a 'Go Fund Me"
fund or ask people to bring cash to upcoming shows to go into the kitty.  We do not
want the loose Windsor, maybe some of the breed clubs that were joining up
with Windsor will be able to contribute their fees, even though their shows
where cancelled.  The Committee has asked us all to give them time and space
for them to discus the future with the RKC, Then they will come back to us.
Personally  I hope they realise we are on their side., just waiting to find what
we can do the help. 

​As time goes on, with changing weather patterns maybe we need to consider to
having some shows in mid summer in the evening.  It is already done in other countries.  
So far now we wait, for the leadership of the Club to let us know what we can do  
from reading on social media sights we are ready to assist how we can.  

Reading 'Our Dogs' this week we see that Denise Garratt is now the breed correspond
for Salukis.  It has been awhile in finding a replacement.  We wish her the best 
in her new position.  

 The SGHC has posted " Time to get your camera's out!! We are looking
for photos of your Salukis for the 2027 calendar, get them in asap, please send to
saluki [email protected]

Last weekend UKSS held their Summer Championships 2026.  There were 12 
Salukis competing in a strong entry.  .  Congratulations to all the winners and 
placed dogs ad special congratulation to newly crowned Lure Coursing 
Champion, Zafaraniyeh Dashte Kavir owned and bred by Hilary and John Davies.

A wonderful weekend of competition showcasing the athleticism, stamina
and enthusiasm that make the Saluki such a remarkable coursing hound.  Well

 The following is for discussion:

The postings on social media sights of  of upcoming
 Saluki litters has recently increased, most of the posted  litters are
not in the UK, but they are on social network, hence  they be anywhere in the world
 A few of kennels announcing up coming litters  are  the older well known kennels
to us older Salukiphiles   some are new,  breeding their first litters.  We all have
to start  some wher​e.  Interestingly, in the purchasing of puppies and the 'new
members' of the SGHC seem to be coming from the Afghan fraternity.  Also I
have seen recently a Saluki obtained by a well known established
Greyhound breeder and exhibitor.  This trend is also
seen in the show ring, which includes our judge at Crufts this year, most of 
our judges are Afghan breed specialist. Just have a look at the calendar
for the 2026 year. I make no judgement just an observation.
