Xena is our third Rottweiler. After the death of our second, Bess (Upend Flicker to a Flame), we decided to take a break from having any more Rotties. We love their characters plus have always felt the need to have a macho dog living with the Salukis for security. The downside is that they are not a long-living breed and it is heartbreaking to say goodbye at around 10 years of age.
We did not plan on having Xena, as she belonged to our dog sitter Delia. Delia decided to follow her dream and move to New Zealand with her Rotties, which did not include Xena as she was a client's dog. When one of Delia's Rotties died unexpectedly, Delia took Xena on as she was in need of a home (we think she had a plan "B," which was us). The paperwork was completed for the trip down under for the other dogs so Xena was left with us. She is our bonus and we are delighted with her in every aspect. She, as have all of our Rotties, fitted well into our household.
