Roy Goodby passed away on 1st November 2019 in his 92nd year after a long illness. The last time I saw Roy was at Crufts in 2016.  He was not well at that time but determined that he was attending Crufts and going to enjoy the proceedings. Knowing Roy that was not surprising.  He was always a very active member of the Saluki fraternity, as one of the founding members of The Northern Saluki Club and up until his death the Patron of that Club.  For thirteen years he was Chairman of the NSC.   At one point he was a ‘trustee’ of the Saluki Welfare Fund.

Roy was a Championship Show judge, the first time I remember him judging was 40 years ago at the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club Show.  He was judging dogs and his co judge was Bo Bengtson judging the bitches.  It was a bitter sweet day for Roy as that night/morning his beloved wife Joan passed away in her sleep.
Roy had the honour of judging our breed at Crufts in 2004.
He made up one champion, Wahiba Dhakhia.  She was born on the 21st September 1991 her sire was Knighellington Vagrant and dam Knightellington Wasmiya at Wahiba.  He had one more litter after that.

Roy’s funeral will take place on November 20th at 12.15 at Crewe Crematorium.  Flowers from the family only but donations can me made in his name to the Saluki Welfare.  Rest in Peace Roy

South Yorkshire Hound Show schedules are available on Fosse Data.  Salukis will be judged by Anna Freegard for her first judging assignment.  This is the Club’s Christmas Show which is being held on the 6th December so please enter, giving Anna an enjoyable day plus get a head start on the festive season.

We have seen dreadful photos of the flooding in the North of England around Sheffield, Doncaster and that area.  Each time they mention the location I think of the Saluki people living around there.  We hope they are ok and their houses have not been flooded.  It is dreadful when the water comes in leaving so much damage and a horrible smell in it’s wake.

A few judges have been posted in the KC Gazette.  Driffield 2020 will be judged by Joanne Mahon.  In 2021, Fran Mitchell (Bronia Long hair Dachshunds ) will be allocating CC in Salukis for the first time at Darlington and Denise Rogers will be judging that year at the SGHC Championship Show.

Next week I will review the Breed Record Supplement from the Kennel club
