I would like to thank Elaine Stanmore for helping me put together the following obituary for Liz Metcalfe who died on Friday 21stSeptember.  Liz had not been well for some time. She was able to attend the SGHC Open Show in June and said she was hoping to attend more shows in the coming months.  Unfortunately She  had a fall, breaking her leg above the ankle in early August.  It was a very complicate break requiring a 10 hour operation and a skin graft.  After a stay in the hospital and later in a recovery center she was discharged and sent home, which was last Monday.  She was, I am told, delighted to be back with her family and reunited with the dogs.  On Friday she developed breathing problems, even though the paramedics were there they were unable to save her

Liz started out with an Afghan from Jenny Dove.   She was called Saringa Anastasia, from this name came the Tasia Salukis. She acquired her first Saluki from Deborah Copperthwaite and she was Ch Al Caliphs Elfiesa, who won 11 CCs and was top winning bitch for one year.  Personally I thought she was lovely, giving her two Best In Shows.   The first one was at the SGHC Limited Show and the second at the Northern Saluki Club Championship Show.  In those days we had a big entry and I remember correctly there were about 170 entries at the NSC Show. Elfiesa had one litter, there were 4 puppies.  The sire was Elaine & Neil’s Dasuki, a Timotheus of Chandav son.  Three were dead when she had a caesarian because the vet had waited too late to operate.  The only remaining pup was William, who walked into a patio door at an early age and was never shown. Next Liz acquired from Ken and Diane Allen, Ch Jazirat Ilya at Tasia.  From her dear friends at Chandav, Liz had Chandav Venetia.  Next from Elaine and Neil Stanmore’s all champion litter, Liz had Ch Altaya Tallulah at Tasia and Ch Altaya Tasmayah at Tasia.  Tasmayah produced four champions.  They were Ch Zemar Tasia Elouise, Ch Tasia Esmerelda, Fin Ch Tasia Eminence and Ch Tasia El Imran.
Liz’s last litter was from Ch Zemar Tasia  Elouise .

Her devoted and constant companion and in many cases partner with the Salukis was Martin Green (Zemar).  They were friends from her earlier times in Afghans.
Both she and Martin took great pride in their Salukis.  Our condolences to her husband Dave, her son John and her three grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements are not available as of yet, but I will post them later when they are known.

The last of the early autumn shows took place last Friday.  Judging Salukis was Margaret Fulcher. DCC, BOB for his first CC went the Jeannette Cotterill’s Miskanda The Grey Gatsby. He was born on 11thJune 2015 and his breeder is his exhibitor.  His sire is Fernlark Pull the Cork at Sotazsu and dam, Ch/Am Ch Sundara’s Ayla Op De Sabbia.  RDCC went to Nicola Quadling’s Kasra Zebadiyah at Malenkhai.  BCC for her third and qualifying CC went to Mary Sanders Parker’s Moushzad Claudia-Classicus (IMP) JW Sh CM.  She was born 14thDecember 2013 and her breeder is Imke Berndt.    Her sire is multi ch. ChDahaqin Baqir and dam Multi Ch Pari-Was Ohra-Orli .  RBCC went to Lisa & John Hudson’s Glenoak Leilah.  Best Puppy was Classicus Antigone owned by Mary Sanders Parker.  Well done all!!
