SALUKI BREED NOTES WEEKENDING 6TH JULY 2018.

South Eastern Hound Club will be holding their 51st Premier Open Show on Sunday 2nd September at Hickstead All England Jumping Course, West Sussex BN6 9HS.  Classes will be supported by the SGHC with rosettes for BOB, RBOB and Best Puppy.  £5.00 will be given by the Club for BOB and Best Puppy.  After the judging there is usually a wonderful bring and share picnic.  When I hear who will be coordinating I shall put the information in the breed notes.  Judging Salukis will be Susan Rhodes of Shadowfax Afghans.
Schedules are available on-line through fossedata or contact Show Secretary Mr James Duffy on tel: 01342 716394 or email: showsec_southeasternhoundclub@outlook.com. Postal entries close on Thursday 9th August and on-line entries can be made up until Tuesday 14th August.

We have been away for a couple of weeks visiting family in the States so I am a little behind in reporting show results.  The first show I will report is Blackpool where Frank Kane was suppose to judge, instead Pam Marston Pollock took centre stage.  BCC, BOB for her 1st CC went to Mr A & Mrs M Hudson’s Velourias Agent Velvet Glencathra.  She was born 12th October 2014 and her breeder is Mrs D Layton-Smith. Her sire is Ch Baghdad Karim (IMP AUS) and her dam is Ch Anasha Al Noushafarim (IMP AUT).  RBCC went to The Shimmin’s Ch Hislome’s Lenore Mish Cranstal (IMP SWE) DCC for his 1st CC went to Classicus Baroque at Ravensett owned by Mr G & Mrs S Littlechild.  He was born on the 6th February 2016 and his breeder is Mary Sanders Parker.  His sire is Int Ch Elamir Amar and his dam is Ch Classicus Concorrdia with the RDCC to Ch Fernlark By Design owned by Mr K and Mrs M Goulden.
Following the show I have received the following:” Frank Kane writes:
I would like to apologise to all those Saluki exhibitors who entered and travelled to show under me at Blackpool championship show last weekend.I was unable to judge the breed and I am sorry that the exhibitors faced a change of judge on the day of the show, which is always disappointing. I hate letting exhibitors and show organisers down and felt very bad about the circumstances. Please accept my apologies.”

The second show, very memorable for other reasons was Windsor.  Judging Salukis was Clair Chryssolor, whom is now living in Texas though previously a long time resident here in the UK.  Her BCC, BOB and Hound Group 3 was Denise Garratt & Sue Oakey’s Ch Caryna Neferti JW Sh CM with the RBCC to Diane Layton-Smith’s Ch Anasha Al Noushafarin (IMP) Sh CM.  DCC went to Jeannette Glaister’s Ch Vanechka Otis S Berega Turi (IMP) JW Sh CM with RDCC to Anna & Ben Freegard’s Mumtaz Theseus.  Best Puppy was Dr P Postma and Mr D Smith’s Fernlark Odyssey.  Best Veteran went to Jeannette & Alan Glaister’s Ch Classicus Cassander JW, Sh CM.  This was just the beginning.

Post judging Ann and Paul Shimmin had invited the Saluki exhibitors and friends to their retirement party.  After many years of commuting to shows in the UK from the Isle of Man, not forgetting that their two girls had gained their titles, it was time to hang up their show leads.  As I mentioned earlier we were not there in person but in spirit, so can only relate second hand about the wonderful party.  From the photos that were posted on the social media, there must of been at least 40 people in attendance.  It was nice to see that Glen Bounds of able to attend. Caroline Pickering made one of her gorgeous cakes, which I was told was delicious.  I believe those in attendance had all brought food contributions to the event.  In last week’s Our Dogs there was a full page advert by the Shimmins featuring all their champions through the decades. It was wonderful to see all the canine faces we have seen through the years. Ann has promised me that we have not seen the last of them, but they shall attend shows as visitors only.  What a wonderful way to conclude their many years of exhibiting.
