Last Friday after the judging of the Southern Counties Championship Show, the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club held their Open Show.  Judging was Ms Gabriele Schroter from Germany.  She had a good entry of 48 dogs.  The weather was cool, making fools of the weather forecasters as they had predicted a mini heat wave for that day.  All things taken into account the dogs appreciated not having that mini heat wave, personally I found the temperature quite moderate.  Around the ringside were spectators and the Club had set up one side with photos for the photo competition, secretaries table, trophy table and raffles prizes.  The scene was quite festive.

I carefully filled in the results of the show into my catalogue but between the showground and home, I have lost it so if I have made an error on who won what please let me know and I will correct it in these notes.  Best in Show went to Diane Layton-Smith’s Elviis Al Noushafarin Velourias (IMP AUS) .  Reserve Best in Show and Best of Opposite Sex went to Maya Monk’s Al-Zubeyda Mahabbah (IMP FRA).  Best Puppy in Show was Diane Layton-Smith’s Velourias Pris Von Schmidt.  Best Opposite Sex Puppy in Show was Peter Kiernan & Olga Blecher’s Alishammar Rafael Avec Kierlander (IMP BEL).  Best Veteran went to Annettee & Bryan Buckley’s Al Caliphs Djansa.  Best smooth was Karen Fisher’s Ruweis Isad

On completion on the judging, there was a pre-arranged ‘afternoon’ tea.  Everyone seemed very happy with their sandwiches, cakes, scones and tea.  A big thank you to the Saluki Club for putting on a lovely day.

Schedules are now available for South Eastern Hound Club.  It will be held on Sunday 1st September 2019 at the Hickstead Showground, BN6 9HS.  It is a lovely friendly show.  After the Saluki judging there is always a wonder bring and share picnic.  Judging this year will  be Mrs Lyn Hewson.  A name more often associated with Afghans and Rhodesian Ridgebacks.  She is on the Northern Saluki Judging list.  Anyone requiring a schedule can obtain one through the Show Secretary, Mr James Duffy on telephone 01342 716394.  Postal entries close on Thursday 8th August.   On-line entries can be made to  www.fossedata.co.uk, closing date is Tuesday 13th August.
